Rockmart takes 7-AA Region victory with Murray County trip, takes top spot for GHSA record book
That’s right, Jacket Nation. Rockmart remains the champs in the region once again.
Rockmart’s win over Murray County on Friday night kept them right in the top spot for the 7-AA football title once again, and the 7-2 Jackets now can’t be beat in the standings even with one more game left against North Murray coming up on November 1.
The Jackets traveled to Chatsworth on Friday night and brought home the region championship and an Indian sweep, tackling the green and white on their home turf with a wipeout 72-0 final score.
After opening the season with a pair of losses to Cedartown and Cartersville, the Jackets went on a roll past all comers to hold onto their undefeated streak in region play. Rockmart hasn’t lost a region game in football since the 2017 season, when the Jackets went straight through a then 7-AA focused on Floyd County schools without being stopped.
Rockmart has won 56 region games in a row since then. The Jackets during that time have made the playoffs every year and two state championship appearances – including a 2023 title run.
The Jackets have one more region contest left with Rockmart traveling to Murray County again next Friday, set to face the Mountaineers at North Murray to finish out the 7-AA schedule. They’ll have a break before the opening week of the Class AA playoffs.
Rockmart is secured a home game in the first and second rounds with the 1st place finish in the region for their eighth time.
