First round bound Rockmart in playoffs for first time since 2016

The Rockmart Lady Jackets wrapped up their run through the first round of the playoffs this afternoon, topping a Crisp County squad after finishing a stellar regular season on top.

After a 27-23 campaign for the 2024 regular season and a 4-4 region record, Rockmart finished just well enough in the region tourney to make a spot in the playoffs and took on the Lady Cougar in a three-game match.

Rockmart took the top spot in the first round with a 25-8, 25-20 and 25-16 set of victories over Crisp County to advance after they took to the court this afternoon.

The victories push Rockmart into a second round with a forthcoming matchup between Drew Charter and Savannah Arts Academy for the second round.

Also in recent days, Jenna Freeman notched her 1,000th kill as a Lady Jacket volleyball player and was honored for the feat.

She joined fellow Lady Jacket Emma Goodson in honors this season, after Goodson notched her 1,000th career dig.

The game today was the first playoff appearance by the Lady Jackets in volleyball since 2016. They made it all the way to the semifinals to fall to a runner-up Coosa eight years ago. The Lady Eagles went onto win three state titles on a row from 2017 through 2019.
