It’s going to be a new day this coming season for both the Cedartown and Rockmart High football squads, as both home fields are undergoing a dramatic transformation this summer.

R.K. Redding Construction’s Keith Redding posted these photos on Facebook in recent days showing the aerial progress of the new installation of artificial turf at both Cedartown and Rockmart High School stadiums in past days.

The work – which began this summer – is part of an ongoing number of upgrades around the Polk School District happening in 2022 to improve athletic facilities at several schools.

Along with the work happening to install artificial turf at The Rock and on Doc Ayers Field, the tennis teams are getting new surfaces to play on as well, the Rockmart High softball squad is getting repairs completed to their field to help with drainage issues, and new track equipment and timing systems to be used when track and field events are underway at the high schools.

The projects – paid for via ESPLOST funding – were approved this year (some just before the school year let out in late May) and compliment some of the already completed items for upgrades. Those in the past have included drainage projects for Cedartown’s baseball and softball fields, track resurfacing at both schools, increased restroom and storage facilities for the middle and high schools, and spending to update the press box and scoreboard at The Rock.

The most noticeable projects completed ahead of the start of the 2021 football season included new lighting for both schools football stadiums, which now offer capabilities like celebratory flashing patterns following touchdowns.
