Those who don’t know might be surprised that Cedartown’s Tae Harris has an offer from the University of Georgia, but the rising junior halfback is going to get the touches this year to prove he’s got what it takes to play on Saturdays and Sundays in the future.
Harris put up a good season for Cedartown’s run to the state title in 2022, putting 13 carries on the board with 300 yards and three touchdowns behind an already stacked squad of backs on the Bulldogs offense. His stats on defense are just as impressive as cornerback on defense. He put up 59 tackles on the season, grabbed three interceptions and another seven breakups against opposing passers and offenses through a nearly perfect year.
He’s also impressing with his increased speed heading into the 2023 season of a 40 time of 4.39 seconds going into his junior year.
During the spring Track and Field season, Harris put up a 10.7 second 100 meter dash time during competition and was part of a squad that made it to the state championships in a variety of events.
This year will be his opportunity to shine as graduation has put him as the leading guy heading into the 2023 season in the backfield.
And colleges are already paying attention to the 6-foot, 170lb talent here in Northwest Georgia. He has options starting to pile up with offers already in play from Troy, Georgia Southern and Arkansas State.
The Bulldogs threw their hat in the ring for Harris’ services after he graduates with the Class of 2025 on Thursday.
Harris is one of several in recent years who have garnered the attention of the Southeastern Conference.
UGA alone has taken two players in recent years from Cedartown High: the now-Cleveland Brown Nick Chubb at running back and (now former) Bulldog CJ Washington for a defensive position.
Check back for more updates throughout the season about Harris and the rest of the Bulldogs preparation for the football season starting in August.
