SOFTBALL: Rockmart’s undefeated streak cut at 15, bounced back on Wednesday

The Rockmart Lady Jackets had a huge run through the start and midway point in the 2023 season on the softball diamond.

That run extended through 15 games both at home and on the road, through two rival showdowns and tournament play over this past weekend.

North Cobb finally cut the run as the Lady Jackets fell 10-2 during play at home on Monday.

The Lady Warriors (also on an undefeated run and are sitting at 13-0 after the Rockmart win) came in and took an early 4-0 lead in the first off the Rockmart defense, then added runs in the second, fourth and two more in the sixth and seventh to close out any hope for the Lady Jackets.

Bri Davis scored two on a double to bring in the Lady Jackets only runs in the home outing on Monday.

Rockmart scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to try for a comeback down by six, but were snuffed out over the final three innings of play.

Fortunately for the Lady Jackets, they bounced back in a 6-5 win on Wednesday over Mt. Paran Christian on the road. They took a 4-3 lead in the fourth and added two runs in the fifth to stay head of the Lady Eagles, who also scored two in the fifth before Rockmart and MPC kept each other scoreless through the final two innings.

Kaylee Huckaby came home with the win on an eight strikeout performance on the evening.

Rockmart’s historic 15-game stretch included five region wins in a row, which also puts them two games ahead of the rest of the region in first place in 7-AA on the season.

They get a rest until next Tuesday, September 19 when they face North Murray on the road, followed by Haralson on Thursday, September 21 at home with a 5 p.m. start.

They have a long stretch at the end of the month starting Monday, September 25 with a trip to Murray County, a Sept. 26 trip to Gordon Central, and a Sept. 27 trip to Pepperell which is capped off by a Sept. 28 trip to Model. Three of the four games of the stretch are region matchups.

Rockmart finishes the season on Oct. 3 at home with Fannin County, and trips the following days to Harrison on Oct. 4, and Murray County on Oct. 5.
