Cedartown has the chance to keep from being swept by the top team in Class 4A when the Heritage-Catoosa Lady Generals come down on Thursday to play the Lady Bulldogs and wrap up a region series.
This comes after a pair of tough losses to the Lady Generals on the road in a doubleheader in region play on Tuesday.
Cedartown tried valiantly to hang tough in the first game, drawing first blood with a one-run first inning, but the Lady Generals tied up in the bottom half of the inning and the score remained that way through the bottom of the third, when the Heritage added seven runs to the scoreboard.
During the top of the fourth, Cedartown added another five runs to their tally in an attempt to cut their deficit and hang in the game, but shutouts in the fifth and sixth innings and seven runs added to the Lady Generals side of the scoreboard ended the Lady Bulldogs valiant effort to slow down the top team in the state on Tuesday.
After that fourth-inning rally, the Lady Bulldogs didn’t score a single run again for the rest of the day. The Lady Generals finished the first game with a 15-7 win, and kept adding to their run tally in the second.
Cedartown was shutout in Game 2 as the Lady Generals took five runs in the bottom of the second, and three more in the bottom of the fifth before the game was called and the Lady Bulldogs were allowed to head home without having to play the sixth and seventh innings.
The pair of losses extended the Cedartown slide to a three-game losing streak after dropping the final game of the region series to Pickens County last week. The team now sits at 6-10 overall, and moved down to fifth in region standings at 2-6 in 7-AAAA play.
The Lady Generals come down to Cedartown for a 5:30 p.m. start on Thursday to round out the Region 7-AAAA series.
