Congratulations are due to local wrestlers who took the gold over the weekend on the state level.
Six Rockmart wrestlers headed up a team state title once again for the 2023 season. The team beat out Fannin County, Toombs, Vidalia and Model for the top spot in Class AA wrestling as a team again. The 206 the points Rockmart earned was the highest score of any team in any classification during this year’s traditionals that wrapped up this weekend. The Jackets put 244 team points in total.
Jase Davis, Nahzir Turner, Hagen Sharp, TK Davis, Gunner Chambers and James Murray took home the gold on Saturday. Hunter Wilson took a Silver medal along with Malachi Macedonio in their weight classes, Austin Wooten and Tyler Malone both took a fourth spot, and Bleu Winters took sixth in his weight class.
History was also made for the Cedartown wrestling program as an individual champ.
Kaitlyn Fields took the top spot in her weight class and is the first Lady Dawg to take the gold.
The Bulldogs had a few other wrestlers grapple at traditionals. Adam Payton won gold in the 132 lb weight class on Saturday. Also, the Dawgs saw Gage Mason and Zack Gray placed fourth in his weight class.
