PolkSportsWire is back in full force this fall with the start of football season, and we’ve got a plan in place for which games we’ll be covering in and around Northwest Georgia for our home teams in 2023.
The above list includes all the dates we’ll be filming varsity football games for the regular season, starting on August 4 with a trip down to Bremen for a scrimmage game. The Rockmart Yellow Jackets open our filming season facing off against the Blue Devils after a 2022 scrimmage win at home. PSW will be on the sidelines in one of four road games this year.
The final week of pre-season will feature the Cedartown Bulldogs hosting the Cass Colonels at home. Cedartown also took a victory in this game with a big second half on the road. The Bulldogs this year are hosting a Cass squad who vastly improved in 2022 over their previous seasons in a topsy-turvy 7-5A.
Essentially the big game of the year comes during Week 1 of the regular season on August 18, when Cedartown hosts Rockmart for the annual Battle of Polk County. This year’s game promises to be huuuuuge after Cedartown snapped a Jackets winning streak at The Rock in 2022. The Bulldogs are looking to open the season at home right with a victory on their path toward a run toward the title after finishing last season as runner’s up.
Rockmart hosts their first home game on August 25 against Cass in what will be our second feature including the Colonels this year. Cedartown will be on the road at Callaway, so don’t EXPECT any footage from the game, but who knows? 😉
PSW is joining Cedartown on the road since Rockmart is on a bye week for their return trip to Sequoyah this year. The Bulldogs hosted the Chiefs in a 35-0 shutout at home. Cedartown this year will have to face a Chiefs squad at home in Cherokee County. Hope this trip is fun…
Dalton is headed to Rockmart in a return matchup after the Jackets traveled up to Whitfield last year in a shootout game. This one could be an instant classic for offense this year again as well as 7-AA faces a 7-5A team that is looking to make a mark this year. (Cedartown is hosting Calhoun that night as well. Maybe you’ll get second half coverage, but don’t count on it.)
We’ve got a special treat for you on Sept. 15 instead of making a looooong trip with Rockmart to Irwin County. Cedartown will be off. Stay tuned, more to come on that.
The third road trip of 2023 will be to Whitfield County with Cedartown playing at Dalton on September 22 after hosting the Catamounts last year for a victory, and will be followed by the region opener for Rockmart at Model on September 29.
Homecoming for the Bulldogs is being held on October 6, followed by Rockmart’s on Oct. 13. PSW will have full coverage from both games, and Polk Today coverage of the Homecoming Queen ceremonies will be available as well.
PSW rounds out the season at home: Oct. 20 at Cedartown, Oct. 27 at Rockmart and then something special is planned for determining where the final regular season filming takes place for this year’s highlights show.
(More info about the playoffs will be shared later this week.)
