Congratulations go out to the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs for placing in a Georgia High School Athletic Association competition for cheer squads this weekend.
The Lady Bulldogs took third in their first Gameday Cheer Competition on the state level that began on Friday in Columbus. Cedartown came in just behind Mary Persons and West Laurens in the 3A/4A event.
The team headed by coach Katie Abrams achieved this in just the first year Cedartown has been involved in GameDay Cheer competitions. The Lady Bulldogs hosted their first event earlier in the month for many schools to come and take part as well (see photos below.)
Vidalia took the top spot in 2A, South Effingham in 5A/6A and Buford in 7A.
McIntosh took the top spot in the Dance event for the GameDay cheer event.
GameDay cheer differs from Competition Cheer in that a greater focus is placed on a team’s ability to cheer toward and involve crowds like they would on the sidelines of football games during the fall, in comparison to Competition Cheer, which features performances that are choreographed and feature much more of the tumble, gymnastics, dance and physicality of cheer as a sport.
