The LSU Tigers punched their ticket to the dance over the weekend, and one of Polk County’s own is headed that way with the SEC school making their first appearance in the College World Series since 2017.
Tigers Junior Ty Floyd is College World Series bound to Omaha with his squad after they finished off Kentucky over the weekend in Super Regional play on LSU’s home turf in Baton Rouge. They won over the Wildcats 8-3.
Floyd got the start in the game but gave up a pair of solo homers before the bullpen was called upon to keep the Wildcats from gaining any further ground in the series and took over for the last 17 outs.
Despite trouble in the early innings and being pulled in the fourth, Floyd has provided consistent play on the mound for the Tigers. He sits at 12-6 in his overall career with LSU, putting up 162 innings of work and an ERA of 4.22 during his college career.
The height of his season in pitching was a 10 strikeout performance against Mississippi State in mid-May, but despite putting up six innings and only giving up a run, LSU lost that one 9-4. The Rockmart High alum and
Floyd got the start against Kentucky, so likely won’t be opening up in the CWS in the first game.
The Tigers will play the winner of the Southern Miss-Tennessee Game 3 in the final super regional game set to start this evening at 6 p.m. The World Series opener for LSU will be on June 17, time to be determined. It’ll be televised on ESPN.
