Rockmart is heading into the playoffs after this Friday night off once again looking like they are in the driver’s seat heading into the postseason.

A perfect run through 7-AA notched the Jackets another region title – their 8th in a row – and a 8-2 season provide Rockmart the opportunity to head deep into a Class AA title run with momentum at their backs.

New rules are in place for the Class AA playoffs, meaning that Rockmart’s road to the Benz might be easier than ever.

Postseason rankings were introduced this year for placing teams into the the First Round of the bracket, and assuming nothing changes during this final regular season makeup week on Friday night the Jackets should be sitting in third place heading into the playoffs.

Rockmart at this point would be facing the 30th team in the rankings, currently set as the Hornets out of South Atlanta. The 5-5 Hornets’ record doesn’t reflect the opportunity they might have this season against the Jackets.

They finished second in region play at 3-1 in 6-AA, and wrapped up their regular season on Friday winning their third game in a row over a Redan squad that finished 3-7.

Though projected to face off in the first round, the potential need for makeup contests this week after Hurricane Helene’s path through the south and eastern half of the state interrupted the season in late September.

Rockmart having finished off their regular season run and keeping their region streak going to 58 games should remain a top seed in the Class AA bracket no matter the outcomes.

Friday’s win over North Murray was also a big night for junior Tyree Mccrary, who scored three of the four touchdowns for Rockmart this past Friday to wrap up the season. He had 8 carries for 127 yards and a kickoff return for a touchdown over the Mountaineers.

Tristan Anderson grabbed a Luke Parker pass to also pick up a score in the 28-7 win.

Rockmart gets this week off to rest up and get ready as the playoffs begin with the opening round on November 15. The Jackets will be hosting, so stay tuned for more info about the forthcoming first round game time and tickets.
