The Bulldogs are back in action for the first time since their untimely exit from the playoffs in November.

Cedartown takes the field to play a intrasquad spring scrimmage game on Friday evening, May 17 at 6 p.m., providing an opportunity for several rising seniors to showcase their talent.

That includes names like Tae Harris, now a Clemson Tiger commit after he graduates with the Class of 2025, and Demarcus Gardner, a Central Florida Golden Knights commit.

Opportunities abound for a squad who will be looking for who takes over for Drew Ledbetter under center, a team leader in Edgar Martinez on both sides of the ball, and defensive leaders to take shape during the spring game and summer conditioning heading into the new season.

Cedartown exited the season in the second round of the playoffs in 2024, ending a season where the Bulldogs went 8-4, finished second in the region behind Central Carroll, and lost to North Oconee on the road.

The Bulldogs came off a three-year region title run and have gone to the playoffs every year under head coach Jamie Abrams. They made it to the title game unscathed in 2022, losing by a single point to Benedictine for the Class 4A championship.

As the new season closes in for the Bulldogs and the 2023-24 school year ends next week, Cedartown enters a new era of region competition. 7-4A’s realignment by the GHSA this past fall for the next two years pits the Bulldogs against previously 7-5A schools including Cass, Cartersville, Dalton, Hiram and Woodland, and adds Allatoona after several schools moved out of the 4A classification.

Cedartown’s only 7-4A opponent who remained in the region with them was Southeast Whtifield, and they won’t be playing football with the rest of the squads who entered this year after deciding to play only a non-region schedule late last year.

The Bulldogs schedule for this fall is already set, and can be found here.
