Cavaliers played four ineligible players against Bulldogs, forced to give up victory
The Callaway Cavaliers football program were forced to give up an August 25 win over the Cedartown Bulldogs in an unexpected turn of events this Wednesday morning.
The school announced on their Facebook page that a rules violation forced them to give up the win when four ineligible players took part in the contest on their home turf against Cedartown last month.
The Bulldogs originally fell in that game 27-10.
Here’s the posting from the Callaway High School FB page:
Cavalier Family,
On Tuesday, September 19, we were notified by GHSA officials that 4 student athletes on our football team do not meet eligibility requirements for athletic participation. These players participated in the football game on August 25 versus Cedartown, and as a result, the win must be forfeited.
Please know that our school and athletic department is fully committed to following all GHSA bylaws. We will continue to review this case and explore all appropriate steps going forward.
We thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and athletic programs, as we strive to provide a positive experience for our entire community.
Thanks,
Mr. Jason Graham, Principal
The forfeit gives Cedartown a boost to their record and they head into this week’s game after a bye against Dalton at 2-2 now instead of 1-3. Cedartown fell to Calhoun in a 35-21 homestand on September 8 in their last outing.
The Catamounts are 4-0 on the season so far coming into their game against Cedartown.
