Cedartown High School junior Dalton Benefield took the overall top spot in the inaugural Home for the Holidays 5K Run/Walk this Saturday morning, November 27, to open up the Silver Comet Fest in downtown Rockmart.

Benefield set an opening course record of 17:24 to take the top spot on a brisk and somewhat frozen morning run along portions of the Silver Comet Trail focused around the South Marble Street square, Church Street Manor, and Seaborn Jones Park.

“It was really cold, but I like cold weather,” he said. “I was able to run really well because I do well in cold weather.”

Benefield also set a personal best with the race. He’ll be at Running Lane next week.

He is the son of Beverly and Buddy Benefield.
