Cedartown stays in Class 4A, Rockmart moves back down to AA in coming year
Rockmart High School two years ago was big enough to be in Class AAA, but a change this year means they’ll be moving back down in classification and into a new region once again starting with the 2022 football season.
The Jackets are now one of the bigger schools in Class AA with the move back down by the Georgia High School Athletic Association after they released results from the classification committee’s latest move around of schools.
Cedartown High School stayed put in terms of population – even with the multiplier in effect – to stay in Class AAAA with the coming changes being made.
The question now will be whether Rockmart is put back in Region 7-AA with traditional foes like Pepperell, Model, Coosa, Chattooga and Dade County, or if they’ll be moved into a region like 5-AA with Haralson County, Heard County, Callaway and schools in West Georgia.
Of note, the classification committee bumped Bremen up a level to Class AAA because of the number of out-of-area students who are at the school.
Another area school Rockmart faced in Region 6-AAA that moved up was Sonoraville, now with a population large enough with the multiplier in effect to bump them into Class AAAA.
Cartersville was also bumped up in the Classification reorganization this year, now a 6A school though near the bottom in terms of the population even with the out-of-area multiplier in effect.
Expect more news on reorganization of regions in the coming days.
