It was just a bit too warm for wrestlers to hit the mats safely this week to open the season at Cedartown High School.

The MatDawgs hosted Carrollton to once again start the wrestling season outside – this year hosted at the Cedartown High softball field instead of in downtown Cedartown at the courthouse.

The annual outdoor opening this year featured the visiting Trojans and a Cedartown squad seeking to build on last year’s successes.

However the matches were cut short after increased humidity continued to cause mats to remain slick and wet, causing safety concerns for wrestlers tangling on the softball diamond.

Cedartown is back in action today at Paulding County, then head to Rockmart on Tuesday evening to face their cross-county rivals. They are back home on November 13 hosting New Manchester.
