Several Rockmart athletes have decided that they want to further their time on the playing field when they head off for their next level of education, and were celebrated in recent days for making solid decisions about their future schooling.
Here’s the latest on signings that have happened so far this month:
Rockmart’s Emma Hindmon will be heading off to Northeast Alabama Community College when she graduates to play softball for the NJCAA school. She put up big numbers during her final season with the Lady Jackets this fall, and now has the chance to do so at the college level.
She’s signed up to join the brand new program as a Lady Mustang and others across the country as the school opens their first season in Rainsville. The school broke ground on a new softball facility last August, and hired Joe Guthrie as their head coach.
Hindmon’s signing came on Feb. 12.
Brent Washington and Rakaylin Glover both signed scholarships on February 7 along with other seniors across the country for National Signing Day 2024.
“The General” will be heading off to Georgia State to play for the Panthers in Atlanta, while Georgetown College will be getting the talents of Glover on the field when he joins the team following graduation.
The Georgetown Tigers in Kentucky are an NAIA school. Georgia State is a D-I school who play in the Sun Belt Conference.
A couple of days later, Rockmart QB Calliyon Thompson signed a scholarship to continue his college career. Thompson, who stepped up his senior season to lead the Jackets under center to a state title berth, signed with Union College to continue playing on the gridiron for the Bulldogs and his studies.
Union College is located in Barbourville, Kentucky.
Thompson’s signing on Feb. 9 secured his future for the time being.
