It was a good weekend for several Polk County athletes, with personal bests being hit and awards handed out for Cedartown and Rockmart High competitors.

Maybe cooler weather must’ve helped Harlem Diamond hit a personal best for the 100 meter event, hitting an 11.12 second run in the 2nd annual Cartersville Canes Invitational in Track and Field. Alongside Diamond, Dalton Benefield put up a 4:32 in the 1600 m run and took a first in the event as well. He also put up a fourth in the 3200m run.

Diamond also placed fourth in the 200m dash, and Tae Harris put up a fifth.

Many other Cedartown athletes did well in the event.

Khamarion Davis placed fifth in the Triple Jump and third in long jump, Breonna Dulaney took a tie for fourth in high jump, and Patrick Gardner placed second in the shot put. He had a mark of 52-3.5.

Quinlan Cothran and Austin Turner got a third and fourth respectively in the high jump as well. Turner was busy in other events as well, taking second in the 300m hurdles, and third in the 110m hurdles. Quan Dorsey placed second in the 110m, and fourth in the 300m hurdles too.

The Bulldog boys place third in the 4x800m relay, third in the 4x400m relay,

That put the boys in the top spot in the event. The girls squad with many competitors came in ninth.

Rockmart had some competitors enjoy a day on the lake and come up with a big win.

Eli Bowman and Tyler Malone took part in the Amateur High School Bass Association on Lake Lanier on Saturday.

The pair bagged 17.38 pounds of bass and took the top spot in the tournament.

Full tournament results weren’t available yet over the weekend (the AHSBA takes upward of a week to upload their results.)
