The Rockmart Yellow Jackets will be back in action this coming Friday night, hoping to keep their season alive as Toombs County comes to town following a Thanksgiving feast.

The Jackets rolled through the second round with a resounding 56-14 victory over the Union County Panthers, who were stymied for much of the game thanks to a granite-like defense from the home team.

Rockmart QB Calliyon Thompson went 11 for 14 on 146 yards and four touchdown passes on the night, two of those to Tristan Anderson and a 44-yarder to Zyion Mccrary as well as a touchdown pass to Jake Bailey.

Brent Washington, JD Davis, Nahzir Turner and Tyree Mccrary all got scores on the ground for the Jackets as well. Davis put up 103 yards on the night, including a 30-yard run to lead the Jackets ground game.

The defense stood tall in this one as well, with guys like Turner and Luke Clay combining for losses in the backfield, including back-to-back sacks on Panthers quarterback Caiden Tanner, and Turner’s interception as well. The Jackets also forced punts and fumbles as well throughout the contest.

Here’s some highlights from the game on Friday:

Friday’s game was essentially a preview of one of Rockmart’s new region foes for the 2024 season. Union County joined North Cobb Christian in appeals to move into Rockmart’s region for the 2024 season.
