One of Cedartown’s own now has a championship ring to join her many other trophies and titles as her team took it all the way in NCAA competition for softball.
Marycille Brumby and her teammates on the University of North Georgia Lady Nighthawks softball team took the national championship in a 3-0 in the second game of the series to secure their rings.
UNG opened the series on Monday with a 7-3 win over Grand Valley State to claim their second title in program history.
The Lady Nighthawks put up a five-run fifth inning to take a lead and kept it through the opener against the Lady Lakers.
Brumby is a Cedartown grad in her freshman year with the Lady Nighthawks at first base. She was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week in February. She put up only minor stats on her first season – putting up a pair of doubles and a triple, with 2 RBIS and two runs scored on the year. She suited up last on the field against King University earlier in the month, but put up a .324 average her opening season.
