The Cedartown Bulldogs came out on top to advance to 5-4 on the season after topping the Rockmart Yellow Jackets during a Wednesday matchup on the west side of the county.
Rockmart had an early 1-0 lead in the game after Jake Bailey was driven in by Landon Patterson, but that didn’t last.
In the bottom of the third, Cedartown got two runners onto the bases when Eli Barrow came to bat. The runners went to first and second, and then advanced on a double steal during his at bat before he knocked a standup double and scored two runs. The Bulldogs added a third run in the bottom of the inning.
The Bulldogs got some additional run support in the sixth to increase the lead.
Rockmart tried to storm back heading into the top of the seventh with a 5-2 lead, and the Bulldogs gave up a pair of runs late but held on for the victory.
Reece Tanner got the start for Cedartown, and Trey Luke was on the mound first for Rockmart.
The win pushes Cedartown to 5-2 on the season, and Rockmart moved to 3-4.
If the weather cooperates, Cedartown hosts Pepperell on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Rockmart will get a break until Saturday’s rematch at home against the Bulldogs.
