Rockmart Yellow Jacket Jake Bailey’s love affair with baseball is going to continue past high school when he graduates, thanks to an area school who are glad to have his talents.

Bailey announced on Monday via social media that he’s going onward to play college ball at Kennesaw State University when he finishes out his career with the Jackets after he graduates with the Class of 2024.

“It’s always been my dream to play baseball at the next level,” Bailey said after posting the announcement online on Monday.

He shared that among the schools he was looking at, the Owls were among the top of the list.

Coaches from all across the country came to watch Bailey play in travel and high school ball, and he narrowed down his choices to among schools like Kennesaw State, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Air Force, Young Harris and Memphis.

“KSU seemed to have the most interest in me,” Bailey told PSW on Tuesday. “I went on my visit and it just felt like home. Their coaching staff and facilities were wonderful.”

He added that it helps that “Being 45 mins down the road it makes it easy for family to be able to come and watch me play.”

Bailey said he was thankful to Jackets coaches and those on his travel ball squad for helping him to get his name out to college coaches eager to have talent like his at their school. He additionally thanked his family, friends and fans for their support as he gets ready for the next level of his career.

The senior might be playing baseball in college, but he has a whole other sport to complete a season in coming up before he gets back on the diamond. For now, his talents as a defensive back and wide receiver will be needed by the Jackets on the gridiron as he goes into his senior season with the football team as well.
